2024 Toyota Sequoia Review -- iForce Max Hybrid Returns for More Action
The 2024 Toyota Sequoia follows up on the total makeover of the 2023 edition. There’s even more variety with a Limited Nightshade package and a Platinum TRD Off Road option.
With every model getting the iForce Max powertrain, there is reason to call this the Sequoia Hybrid. However, that electric boost is really about the incredible power at the driver’s command.
Of course, the real test for any 3 Row SUV is what it can do for your family. Keep scrolling to find out what this large SUV is all about.
Twin-Turbocharged Hybrid Powertrain
Good enough for the Toyota Tundra, the i-Force Max engine is perfect for the Sequoia. This 3 row large SUV is a living room on wheels, but that doesn’t mean it can’t thrill the family driver.
Highly refined twin-turbocharged engines use an electric motor to boost output. With this mild hybrid approach, the result is 437 horsepower and 583 lb-ft of torque. This is one 3 Row SUV that will never hesitate when passing on the highway or zooming from 0 to 60 mph onto the interstate.
To make sure none of this power goes to waste, the powertrain is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. This ensures that the transmission can harness torque for slow-speed crawls and top-speed acceleration.
SR5, SR5 Premium, and Limited Trims
For those who love a deal, the well-equipped SR5 is a natural choice. This base model has the iForce Max engine, a long list of Safety Sense standards, adaptive cruise control, and cutting-edge dash tech.
The driver’s cockpit has a 12.3-inch digital instrument screen to complement the touchscreen. Cabin features include a moonroof, heated front seats, and tri-zone climate controls. Drivers will appreciate the newest standard, Toyota’s Panoramic View Monitor.
For an even more refined atmosphere, the SR5 Premium adds a bigger 14-inch touchscreen and SofTex leatherette upholstery. A power-fold third row makes it easy to expand the cargo area fast, and a hands-free liftgate makes it easy to access.
Adding to these features, the Limited adds the high quality materials most associated with luxury rides. It pairs the 12.3 digital instrument panel and the 14-inch multimedia audio screen to create the ultimate cockpit.
Best of all, Limited models have important features to take the edge off of the worst Phoenix AZ summer heat. This includes ventilated front seats, second-row sunshades, and third-row sunshades.
Driver Aids and Dash Technology
Toyota puts all the major safety standards on the SR5. This means that every 2024 Sequoia driver has adaptive cruise control. This full-speed device has radar to ensure accuracy.
Forward collision warnings are backed by an emergency autobrake. The system has cyclist and pedestrian detection. The lane keep assist provides steering assistance to help maintain the safest trajectory. Other safety features include a blind spot monitor, a rear cross traffic alert, and parking assist.
Dash tech includes a choice of two touchscreens. The 14-inch display has the most advanced voice recognition. With the Intelligent Assistant, you simply say Hey Toyota to get started.
Android Auto and Apple Carplay are standards. A WiFi hotspot adds the ability to stream either Amazon Music or Apple Music, depending on your subscriptions.
New Luxury Trim Levels
Sequoia Platinum models are remarkable for many reasons, but two rows of ventilated seats may be the best feature to many Arizona families when summer is bearing down on us. Others will like the panoramic moonroof to allow us to see the tops of Arizona mountains and Phoenix high rises.
In this model, the layout incldes standard captain’s chairs on the second row. Premium audio comes to life with 14 JBL speakers. Platinum cockpits gain a head-up display, rain-sensing wipers, and a Qi wireless charger.
New for 2024, there’s a Capstone edition for the Sequoia. This trim level wear semi-aniline leather upholstery and open-pore American walnut accents. Favorite standards include the power-up/down running boards and the LED mood lighting. Packages such as the Tow Tech package are standard on the Capstone.
TRD Trim Levels
Shoppers can get the SR5 TRD Sport, made for driving enthusiasts. It has specially tuned springs and clever monotube shocks to improve its on-road handling.
TRD Off Road packages are offered with the SR5 4x4, Limited 4x4, and --new for 2024 -- the Platinum 4x4. At the top of the food chain, there’s the TRD Pro. With so many choices, there’s a range of price points for those who want a trail-ready Sequoia.
A red start button is a recognizable feature of the many TRD editions. These racy rides have
aluminum pedals as part of the high tech cockpit. Making a statement, these models have a red front axle driveshaft. The off-road suspension is assisted by TRD-tuned springs and Bilstein shocks. The wheels are a special 18-inch TRD-specific style.
TRD Off-Roading Standards
For off-roading, the 4x4 has a selectable locking differential. Multi-Terrain Select adjusts wheelspin to match the sandy, muddy or loose terrain. Downhill Assist Control regulates throttle and braking for the safest descents on loose terrain.
Crawl Control works in 4WD Low. This slow-speed cruise control frees up the driver to focus on steering and watching for terrain obstacles. Building on the panoramic monitor, the multi-terrain monitor reveals the hardest spots for a driver to see naturally.
Stepping up to the TRD Pro, the vehicle gets a wider stance and a prominent TRD skid plate. It has all the same systems, but refines them further. For instance, Fox internal bypass shocks are added to the suspension. There are selectable settings for the locking rear differential.
Sequoia Tow Ratings and Technology
When properly equipped, the tow rating is 9,000 pounds. This means that your family could pull a big boat or camper. New for 2024, the Sequoia can come straight from the factory with power-adjustable towing mirrors that extend, retract and fold.
The 3 row Toyota offers a Tow Tech package with the technology to make trailering easier. For backing up, the Trailer Backup Guide includes Straight Path Assist.
More refined for 2024, the Panoramic View Monitor offers a rear split view to show each side of the trailer. A hitch view makes connecting easier. A top-down view helps the driver avoid low hanging limbs or building overhangs.
For the most active response to pressure and weight, the available load-leveling rear suspension senses where the Sequoia needs help. It does this in real time, constantly readjusting for shifting weight.
The Adaptive Variable Suspension smooths the ride for passengers even as it assists with handling. A tow-haul mode can adapt the i-Force Max system, adjusting response to the weight of trailering.
With so much on board the new Sequoia, it deserves some serious consideration. Schedule a test drive and learn more about this 3 row Toyota.
